Tems wins “Best International Act” at the BET Awards, making history.
Popular Nigerian Singer, Tems, has made history by becoming the first female artist from Nigeria to win the award for “Best International Act” at the BET Awards ceremony that took place in 2022.
The Afrobeats vocalist, who is 26 years old, was announced as the winner of the prize during the 2022 edition of the BET Awards, which was hosted by Taraji P. Henson, who was nominated for an Academy Award. The ceremony took place on June 26, 2022, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Alongside artists such as Dave from the United Kingdom, Dinos from France, Fally Ipupa from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Fireboy Dml from Nigeria, Little Simz from the United Kingdom, Ludmilla from Brazil, Major League Djz from South Africa, and Tayc, Tems was nominated for the award for Best International Act (France).
She is the first Nigerian woman to win the award, which had previously been won by six Nigerian men: Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Ice Prince, D’banj, and 2Baba. She is also the first Nigerian woman to win the award.
